The MHOC Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) is tasked to assist our Pastor, Father Tom, with advice and recommendations to improve our parishioners’ and guests’ experiences at Mary Help of Christians. It is a visionary body that meets monthly to address Parish issues brought forth by parishioners, Clergy, and Council members.
For 2009, the Parish Pastoral Council members are Steve Myers, Debby Beck, Christine Hunschofsky, Dony Medina, Eric Rivera and Alejandro Roca. Fr. Tom and Fr. Manny are ex-officio members.
The PPC serves at the discretion of the pastor and is an advisory body that renders written recommendations to the pastor. Once recommendations are given to the pastor, the PPC moves on to the next issue. Since it is a Parish Pastoral Council and not a Parish Council it is not an elected body. No one on the PPC represents any particular ministry or sub-group within the parish. All of the members of the PPC are active members in the faith community and have wide and diverse interests and backgrounds in travel, language, and ethnicity. They represent a background of science, theology, business, law, medicine, computer science and other pursuits that give the members wide experience in many areas. Each of the members is active in parish ministry such as marriage encounter, land stewardship, lectors, Eucharistic ministers and many others.
The PPC will be reporting through the church bulletin regarding some of the questions under consideration and their eventual conclusion(s) or ratification(s) by the pastor. The Parish Pastoral Council, although a specific advisory body to the pastor, will accept and discuss questions posed to it by parishioners as long as the matters that are brought before the PPC are submitted in writing and signed by the author. This is a forward looking, faith building, spirit-filled venture that is meant to enhance the overall parish life.
