The following list of books, periodicals, or resource material is valuable in understanding the concept of land stewardship as it relates to church property. In principle the concept for a parish or a city or a state is the same. The difference lies in the fact the parishes generally have much smaller property (1/2 - 24 acres) and are highly dependent upon the ground adjacent for a successful implementation of a land stewardship concept. Here at Mary Help of Christian, we are blessed with a city (Parkland) that is dedicated to being "Tree City U.S.A." and a neighborhood that is upscale, large acreage and very close to water conservation wetlands. Considerable amounts of farm land are also within 2 miles and the zoning for the area is restrictive on shopping malls, strip shopping areas and the like. Nevertheless, much of what the Land Stewardship Committee has learned in it's 25 year study from vacant land to fully operational parish and school has some to much application to all parishes.
