Ellie Weber
Ellie Weber became Director of the Land Stewardship Ministry in January 2014. She has been a member of the Land Stewardship Committee (LSC) since 1995. She was introduced to the Committee at the first ministry fair she and her family attended after joining the parish. Gardening had been part of her life since her childhood and working with the LSC gave her the opportunity to dedicate herself to a very big garden.
Ellie has served as recording secretary, chairman of the LSC and commemorative coordinator helping people select garden commemoratives for their loved one. She was one of the editors of the Green Leaf, the original ecology newsletter of the parish. She is now responsible for the LSC bulletin board display in the church foyer.
Besides her volunteer activities with the LSC, Ellie served as a lector, is a member of the MHOC Women’s Club, participates in Women at the Well and has served as Chairman of the Parish Advisory Board. In addition to her volunteer activities at MHoC, Ellie also enjoys nature photography. This serious hobby allows her to view and record God’s wonderful creatures and their habitat.
Ellie recalls the Garden she saw on her first work day. It looked like an oasis in a white sea of sand and coral rock. Construction had started on the parish hall, and the area was hot, dry and dusty. Through her efforts and those of the LSC the church grounds have attained an award winning status. Ellie has come to appreciate the spiritual dimension of her efforts. She has grown in knowledge about plants, nature and faith. During her time in the Garden, feeling the gentle breeze, listening to the birds sing, watching the butterflies and experiencing the quiet she has developed a peace that has brought her closer to God. She now recognizes within her a growing sense of spirituality directly connected to the peace of the Garden.
